Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’ is being made into a film for the second time, this time as an adaptation of ‘Matilda, The Musical’ for Netflix.
‘Matilda, The Musical’ has been a successful musical in both Broadway and the West End since 2011, largely thanks to the award-winning soundtrack written by Tim Minchin and will now be adapted for the big screen. The musical is the winner of over 90 international awards, including 6 Best Musical Broadway World Awards.
The adaptation is due to be released in UK cinemas before being shown around the globe through Netflix and will be directed by Matthew Warchus.
Children from the 90s who grew up with 1996 childhood classic Matilda movie based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 children’s book, will remember Mara Wilson as Matilda, Danny DeVito as Harry Wormwood, and Pam Ferris as the formidable Miss Trunchball, may struggle to see these characters played by any other actors but hopefully, the success of the stage show will rub off on the movie adaptation.
Matilda will be released to UK cinemas by Sony Pictures Releasing in December.
