PALMA HAT WEEK GOES INTO THE THIRD ROUND

After the great success of the International Hat Week of Mallorca, which debuted in Palma de Mallorca in 2019, it will take place again this year, now in September 2021.

One remembers brilliant hats, some as big as the bonnet of a vintage car, in front of which they were presented, horse races and picnics on the green of the harness racing track in Son Castello and a well-attended “Hat Walk” through Palma’s beautiful old town despite 40 degrees in the shade. An all-round successful event that also attracted a lot of media attention.

Against all odds, the Kinsky family of collectors managed to organise another Palma Hat Week at the Hotel Saratoga in October 2020 and combined it with an exclusive exhibition of 25 works of art by the famous Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí, which came from the Rebmann Collection. In combination with 50 extraordinary hat designs on the theme “A New Beginning” by hat makers from over 20 countries, the exhibition had a surreal effect in an almost deserted Palma de Mallorca.

This year, Palma Hat Week takes place in the Kinsky family’s own gallery in Artà. The Studio 25 gallery welcomes you between the 15th and 22nd of September 2021, between 11am and 10pm. Admission is free!

The hats will be shown in the context of gigantic show perfume bottles, so-called Facticen from the Hanne Holze Collection, as well as the special exhibition “Walk by the Sea” by the international artist Judith Sturm.

Graf Kinsky particularly emphasises this year’s cooperation with the major Austrian art magazine Stayinart. The magazine dedicates an eleven-page article to the event in its September issue “Beyond Borders”.

Under the motto: “Boater Beyond Boarders” – “Hats that transcend all borders”, international hat makers – beginners as well as advanced and textile artists – are invited to submit their hat creations on the theme. The deadline for entries is 15.07.21 and the hat creations should arrive in Mallorca by 10.09.21. There are cash prizes and vouchers to be won for the first three places, as well as non-cash prizes for the whole top ten. The jury is unchanged since 2020 – the Count himself, as well as Hazel Buxton from “Highland Hat Blocks”, one of the most renowned hat block manufacturers in the world. They will announce the winners of Palma Hat Week 2021 at the gala dinner.

For the first time, there will also be a fashion cooperation with the well-known, Mallorca-based fashion label Drezz2Imprezz by Cindy Morawetz, whose clothes are worn by many stars and TV presenters, such as Frauke Ludowig, Mariella Ahrens or Regina Halmich, Alexandra Kamp and Marie Amiere.

This year, the milliners also have the task of designing their boater hats to match the elegant animal prints of Drezz2Imprezz’s current light and airy collection, because on 21 September 21 there will be a prêt-à-porter fashion show with the couture hats on market day in Artà.
