FC Barcelona cause a stir in Mallorca

FC Barcelona won against RCD Mallorca over the weekend – even after a pitch invasion!

There was a lot of excitement in Cala Mayor on Saturday when the FC Barcelona football team were spotted arriving at the Nixe Palace Hotel.

Fans were seen taking pictures of some of the players as they stood on the balconies of their hotel overlooking the beach. The team arrived in a convoy of coaches with a police escort to play against RCD Mallorca at their home stadium on the island.

The match took place behind closed doors due to the ongoing pandemic but that didn’t stop one overzealous fan running onto the pitch for a selfie with Barcelona player, Lionel Messi.

The 17-year-old Finnish boy lives on the island and now faces a fine of up to 3,000 euros for his actions and may even face legal action from La Liga. Play resumed after 45 seconds with FC Barcelona winning the match against RCD Mallorca 4-0.
