Our lovely friends, the volunteers at the Cala Nova Cancer Charity Shop have been busy working away, going through all of the donated items and donating money to their many cancer support charities on the island.
Back in January, the shop donated another €19,200 to the AECC and ASPANOB charities. This money was raised by selling donated items in their main shop, donated furniture in their dedicated furniture shop and in their Christmas and children’s pop-up store.
As always, Angela and her team of dedicated volunteers welcome any support to keep this superb charity shop going. Perhaps you have a few hours to spare to volunteer? Or maybe, as this is the spring edition, you have been motivated to have a spring clean and finally clear out all of your cupboards and wardrobes? If so, all donations are welcome!
Pop in and see Angela and the team at the Cala Nova Cancer Charity Shop at Avinguda de Joan Miró, 358 in San Agustin between 10 am – 2 pm from Monday to Saturday and be sure to pop your head into the furniture shop a few doors down. For information or to offer your time, give Angela a call on +34 609 84 86 22 or call the shop on +34 971 708 664.
Remembering Krista Hyer
All of us were shocked back on January 17th this year to hear of the sad and sudden passing of the wonderful Krista Hyer, aged 74. Krista was the founder and president of the Cancer Support Group Mallorca who dedicated her time to creating a community of people on the island that helped patients and their families deal with the effects of cancer. Krista’s work was so important and inspired everyone and her award of a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2019 New Year’s Honours list for her services to British Nationals Overseas could not have been more deserved.
Her friends, colleagues and family miss her greatly but her legacy with the Cancer Support Group Mallorca lives on. Rest in peace, Krista.
