So many, sadly do not appreciate or are grateful for what they have and health is one of those that many take for granted so in times of need we are blessed on this island to have so many wonderful people and organisations that can help in so many ways. I was certainly not going to miss this event on behalf of Celebrity Magazine as Macmillan Cancer Care held what they called “ The Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning”
A super name and super people attended this morning in support of such a worthwhile cause in raising funds for those that need support. Thankfully, it was no secret that the event was being held last Friday at the Secret Garden in Portals and although there was a hint of rain in the air and the sun only came out later, the morning was full of sunshine in all those that attended this coffee morning with a difference. Yes, coffee was included in the small 5 euro donation but also cake and what cakes they were all being home made and a selection that many a bakery would envy.
There is nothing like a good home made cake and I for one chose the chocolate one and it was a delight. Not good for my calories, but certainly good for the palate as well over 100 people sat around the tables outside. Further fun and many a discussion was had for guessing the weight of one special cake, which the winner takes home to add, yes, more calories to their controlled diet or not!! That with a tombola, truly English with a wide range of prizes added to the morning with tables full and much chatting going on as happens of course.
Can we talk! Fantastic, after the challenges that we all faced with lockdown. Yes we are so lucky that we, or most of us have good health so to support this good cause on Friday brings home the fact that so many are lucky but sadly some suffer and groups such as Macmillan bring support and hope to so many. Long may it continue and a big thanks goes out to all volunteers without whom such groups could not function. It was a morning of fun, laughter and surprises and to top it all as they say was a performer and supporter of Macmillan, that we all know. Izzy Newman, a wonderful woman and an amazing singer who sang for an hour but we all wanted more, as the songs, all of which were so good added to the atmosphere of friendship, chats and we all joined in singing and even some brave persons danced. Izzy, comes alive on the stage and her personality, charisma, clearly shines in her singing, joking and Izzy’s connection to those who watch her sing is amazing. So money was raised for a good cause, cakes and a lot of it was eaten and it may not have been “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” but it was Portals.
