So, Spring has sprung here on Menorca and we are in full flow of our Summer season, which luckily this year brings the opportunity for lots of celebration. It’s such a pleasure to see the tourists returning, of all nationalities, and I have even had a two day ‘staycation’ with family that have managed a break to our delightful island in Punta Prima.
Despite the excitement of holidays here let’s cast a thought back to those poor disappointed brides of last year, who are now able to ‘full swing’ into planning their long-awaited weddings. Also, many other celebrations, events and garden parties are beginning to re-appear on the island, so let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the brides, their guests and any others of us that have an exciting function to look forward to with a reason to get dressed up. I have been lucky enough to have already attended a great outdoor function, so I have already picked up a great cocktail dress and hat. Sit back, relax, and have a read of my boutique and wedding fashion inspirations, you may even be tempted to treat yourself!
Bridal wear is still following the floaty feel, plenty of tulle and lots of floating layers that pick up the breeze and looks great for the photographs. Lace is heavily themed; I’m still calling that the Kate Middleton effect even though she and our future king have celebrated 10 years since their ‘small’ wedding! To follow is some names of specific bridal shops in both Maó and Ciutadella to suit each end of the island, should you be in the process of planning your big day or have an exciting invitation, and of course these also cater for guest outfits to suit all tastes.
From anything from cocktail dresses to formal suits or long floaty dresses whatever your taste, it can be catered for in the many other fabulous independent boutique stores our island has to offer. I have seen that local Spanish girls favour long sparkly dresses if they are invited to be a wedding guest.
Large-brimmed straw hats seem to be featuring as popular for this season, although if you’re not a hat person, fascinators and headbands are always available. My hat and a dried Menorcan flower headband came from a great boutique on Maó harbour called Amaia. My dress from Dress Code, a little shop behind the Bonnin Sanso office. Guajara is a wedding boutique with many to choose from and also caters for guests outfits also.
Whereas if you are browsing in Ciutadella, Carmen Gener Cantallops and Modes Gloria are perfect for the bride, and I favour Luna on the Plać de Paul. They are setting the trend for electric blue for this season’s guest colour, the window is an array of different styles, lengths and types of outfits to suit all tastes in this incredibly vibrant colour that makes you look up to the sky.
