Hong Kong hotel giant, Mandarin Oriental has snapped up the Hotel Punta Negra in Costa d’en Blanes for a cool €135 million, including the costs for the renovation of the property.
Mandarin Oriental is part of the Jardine Matheson group that have hotels and investments all over the world and this project will be the third in Spain for the group as they already have the Mandarin Oriental Madrid and the Mandarin Oriental Ritz Barcelona.
Punta Negra is in a prime location on the island and has hosted some important meetings in the past such as a Spain-Italy summit, and the UN’s Alliance of Civilisations summit in 2005.
Other hotel chains such as the Four Seasons are also in talks to open a hotel on the island which is encouraging for the island’s economy, especially in the current economic climate.
