Once again the Deia International Music Festival XLVI organised by the Festival’s artistic Director Alfredo Oyaquez has proved to be a premier culture event for Mallorca with a wonderful series of concerts in magnificent surroundings. All concerts which Celebrity Mallorca magazine are delighted to support and bring you news of the concerts which are sadly coming to it’s finale.
The evenings have attracted lovers of classical music from all over Mallorca and why not as the artists taking part are not only from Mallorca but Worldwide. Alfredo has brought together artists that have never visited the island but I am confident that they have all had a superb time playing here and will return. The audiences have been memorised by the performances and the Festival in my opinion is the most prestigious on Mallorca. No one off concerts which themselves are excellent but with the Festival over many months and to organise so many concerts, World-class artists is both stressful but rewarding for all involved. Alfredo, of course is a master of piano and a conductor, a teacher and much more. Busy days and evenings and already arranging the Festival for 2025, sponsors, donations and government support.
All concerts have been held at beautiful venues and the final concerts of the season will not disappoint. I mentioned in my last article that there were two more concerts. In fact there are three and a choice of venues so do not miss out. I said it was a World famous artist from the USA and indeed it is and the three concerts will delight you in the presence of Zuill Bailey widely considered to be one of the premiere cellists in the World. Zuill a GRAMMY award winner, an internationally renowned soloist, recitalist, artistic director and teacher.
Zuill has performed World wide with symphony orchestras and at music festivals. Now Mallorca!! He won the grammy award for his recording of “Tales of Hemingway” with the Nashville Symphony orchestra. He has produced albums and received his Bachelors Degree from the renowned USA Peabody Conservatory and Masters Degree from the Julliard school in the USA. Not only that he is Artistic Director of El Paso Pro-Musica Sitka Festival, Texas and Professor of Cello at the University of Texas, El Paso.
Not only a superb musician but Zuill has also appeared many times in HBO’s “OZ” series and played for many radio stations even for the BBC and XM radio. A true performer so choose one of his concerts and do not not miss the opportunity of seeing Zuill perform. Amongst the pieces will be those from Bach and what we call a music combo so something for all and at his concert on the 25th October at Obsolete it is called “Bach and Wine” so enjoy.

A first for Mallorca and well done to Alfredo in arranging such a performer to come to the Festival and enjoy the warmth of this wonderful island and it’s people.
So the 2024 festival comes to an end and what an end. More music will be heard and performed on the island in the months to come but for now the Deia International Music Festival XLVI is near to the final countdown but 2025, will, I am sure bring enjoyment to all with new performers and surprises and again to meet and hear those that have performed before and live on the island.
