THE CARS ARE BACK IN TOWN

Another year has passed and again Mallorca is hosting what has become one of the most prestigious car rally events in Europe and Celebrity Magazine is delighted to bring you all the coverage of this now famous 3-day event. A few days ago the official presentation took place at restaurant Flanigan in Puerto Portals. The presentation and details were presented by Toni Dezcaler, director of the event and one of the highlights this year will be that the former Formula 1 driver Alex Caffii will also be competing in what is the twentieth anniversary of Clasico Rally. It’s some achievement for sure. Each year the rally brings so much publicity to the island with television coverage, reporters and media from around Europe all now attending the rally. Do not miss visiting the pits on the afternoon of Thursday 7th March to see, photograph the cars and meet those racing in this exciting event before the official start at 18.00.

Toni was not alone with the presentation as he was accompanied by Demetrio Lladó, Presidente de la FAIB (Federación Automovilismo Islas Baleares, David Salom, director general de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Palma, Carmen Peñas, director general de Turismo del Ayuntamiento de Calvià, Álvaro Irala, director general de Puerto Portals, Carlos Diego Veny, Gerente del ICE (Institut Calvianer d’Esports) Puerto Portals was proud to announce that it is again one of the main sponsors of the event and will be the base for the rally. All teams taking part will start and finish at the port on each of the 3 days of the rally.

All added to the presentation in what is this anniversary year and taking part are 115 teams from more than 11 different countries. A record, if I recall with teams from Germany, Spain and England being the main countries of origin of the teams together with teams from Switzerland, Austria, Argentina and Canada. A true reflection that this rally is one not to miss. The quality of the teams, the drivers, and some 27 different brands of cars will take part.

If you are a car fan or want to enjoy the atmosphere then do come along. See classic historic cars such as the Austin Healey, the MGA’s from the 1950s, a 1963 E.Type Jaguar, even a 1965 Ford Mustang and of course Ferrari’s. Top quality fully blown rally cars and an array of Porsches from one team owners to the professional teams which race in many rally series in Europe. Something for everyone to savour and enjoy. There will be stands and drinks, food and the restaurants will be open so make this first day of the rally an event not to be missed and see each car leave for the first stage at 18.00. The Rally commences on Thursday 7th March and concludes on Saturday 9th March. Programmes are free at the event so all can see the different stages, start and finish times and photos of the cars. All are welcome to visit the pits with the background of wonderful yachts. An ideal location. Let us hope that the weather is fine and sunny. Fine racing, fun and once again putting Mallorca on the map.
