“I want you to all to get up and dance. I want to make this a big sweaty party!” announced Texas’s lead singer Sharleen Spiteri in her thick Glaswegian brogue. Her infectious personality forcing all abled bodied to their feet on what felt like the hottest night ever. With temperatures in the mid-thirties there was absolutely no problem obliging her in getting sweaty.
Indeed Sharleen had all laughing when she stated “I’m dying of heat. What on earth made me chose to wear a pink corduroy suit!” Well, that’s the cleaned-up version. Sharleen jovially chatted with the audience throughout, liberally peppering each sentence with the F word.
The legendary Scottish band, whose worldwide album sales are estimated to be around 40 million, closed the 10th Port Adriano Summer Music Festival as part of their 30th Anniversary Tour. All outstanding musicians, they certainly packed the auditorium. There were plenty of Scottish fans loving having such talent from their homeland. However, the big name also attracted a multi-cultural crowd of all ages.
Spiteri herself at 54 was in fine form. Despite the heat she gave it her all. Bouncing around the stage, effervescent with all the cool moves. Her pitch-perfect voice, has matured, stronger and richer than ever. They obliged their audience with plenty of old favourites, plus songs from their new 10th album “Hi”.
Opening with their signature song “I don’t want a lover!” they immediately had the crowd in their pocket and continued throughout, performing high energy for nearly two hours without an intermission. An impressive end to another successful Port Adriano Summer Festival, which is easily accessible and extremely well organised.
