Are the wheels falling off the X Factor: The Band-wagon?

X Factor: The Band has just hit TV screens across the UK but is it one step too far for the tried and tested talent contest format?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”1729″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]X Factor: The Band is the latest in a line of attempts by music mogul, Simon Cowell, to revive the X Factor franchise after sinking ratings against rival shows in the past few years. So what can we expect from this latest reincarnation?

The new show launched on Monday, December 9th and fans were quick to jump to their smartphones and flood social media with their opinions – and they certainly weren’t positive. Fans complained that the new format, which sees hopefuls audition in front of Simon Cowell, Nicole Sherzinger and Louis Walsh in Simon’s office, was a throwback to the 2002 show, Popstars: The Rivals that catapulted Girls Aloud to fame.

One Twitter user wrote: “#XFactorTheBand Why is this on? They’re going back to the Pop Idol rivals days. It didn’t last then, it won’t now. Find something new pleeeeeease!”

X Factor: The Band sees contestant battle it out to become part of ‘the next big supergroup’. Simon opened the show by saying, “We’re looking with people with personality, humour, a sense of where they are going… we’re not looking for puppets.”

X Factor: Celebrity has just wrapped up on ITV with viewing figures dwindling episode by episode and it seems that this latest version is pulling in even fewer viewers with BBC’s Question Time pulling in more viewers.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the X Factor mega-franchise but for now, it seems that viewers are not too keen. What do you think?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
